May 14, 2003 　滋賀県大津市南郷 　洗堰のそばには国土交通省琵琶湖河川事務所が設置されている。なお，背後の丘は大日山といい，大日山観音堂があり，近世まで掘削が禁じられていた。大日山付近は瀬田川の流路が狭く，このことが近世までの琵琶湖岸の洪水の一つの原因でもあった。   Nango, Otsu City, Shiga Pref. 　There is Lake Biwa Public Works Office, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport beside the weir. The hill behind the office is Mt. Dainichi. There is Dainichisan Kan-nondo Temple, so it was a taboo to break down the hill that untill Edo era. The stream of Seta River was narrow beside Mt. Dainichi. It was one of reason of flood in Lake Biwa.
