 Jun. 19, 2002This sign explain as follows. This canal was consturucted by Kyoto Pref. in 1890. It was based on the 3rd President Kokudo Kitagaki's idea. It was used for source of water supply, water power station, transport by ships between Lake Biwa and Yodogawa River and so on. Now, Board of Water Supply of Kyoto City uses it as main watersource of the system. The person in charge this construction was BE Sakuro Tanabe who just graduated National College of Engineering at 1883. |
